Our historical holdings (only repository and not lendable) consist of 19.000 pre-1850 volumes, gifts from prominent citizens during Germany’s founding era.

Also present are the archives of Koblenzer newspapers starting from 1760. In addition the Görresarchive, the partial estate of Dr. Fritz Michel and Fritz von Unruh as well as the libraries (estates) of Alexander Baldus and Dr. Edmund Dondelinger can be found here. Further processing of historical holdings is under way. On the ground floor the municipal library maintains an exhibition and a meeting area.

The bookbinder as well as the book and magazine repositories of the municipal library are also situated in the “Alte Burg”.
